Tournament Rules:

Brown/Black Belt Division: IJF Rules

Match length: 5 Minutes

Judo Gi: Must have Both Blue & White Uniform

Top 4 athletes on the USA Judo point roster will be seeded in separate quarters of the draw.

 

Novice Division (Below San Kyu): Modified IJF Rules

No Kansetsu-Waza (Arm Locks not allowed).

Match Length: 4 Minutes

Judo Gi: Blue & White Gi Encouraged. Only White Gi Required.

Blue & White Sashes will be Provided

 

Method of Competition: Brown/Black Belt & Novice Division

Modified Double elimination: Play will progress in winner’s bracket until one match remains. The winner of the final match will be the champion the loser will be awarded 2nd place. The winner of the loser’s bracket will be awarded 3rd Only one 3rd place medal will awarded. If a player loses in any round other than the final match, the best result possible will be 3rd place. place.

Match Scheduling: Texas Match System will be used. Players will each get a match number prior to the competition that assigns a match number at mat number. Texas Match Cards will be available 8:00 AM on tournament day.

 

Coaches Credential:

All Coaches must check for credentials during the registration on March 13th. All mat side coaches must be registered coaches with USA Judo. There will be no charge for coaching credentials.



National Collegiate Judo Association Rules of Eligibility:


Student must meet the following Criteria:

  1. A member in good standing with USA Judo (United States Judo Inc.) A copy of your current membership card will be required at registration

  2. Is at least fifteen (15) years of age as of the date of the tournament and under the age of 28 as of December 31st of the tournament year. Proof of age consisting of birth certificate, passport, or current USA Judo membership card having the age verification symbol “V” printed following the date of birth. Note: A drivers License is not acceptable as proof of age.

  3. Is currently enrolled as a full-time Student in an undergraduate program as defined by their institution. The student must carry no less than 12 semester hours or 12 quarter hours, nor have received or satisfied the requirements for a baccalaureate degree.

    1. A Student with eligibility in his/her final semester graduating at the end of term with less than 12 units is eligible for the championships

    2. A student who is enrolled in a graduate program at the institution from which he/she earned an undergraduate degree is allowed to participate in the championships, so long as he/she has remaining eligibility and participates within the applicable 5 year period.



  1. Must show legitimate progression toward graduation. Each year is recognized at the beginning of the academic year to include any summer school work completed.  At the beginning of each year of collegiate enrollment, the student must have completed the units toward a designated degree program as shown in the table below. By the beginning of the second year, a student must have completed and passed 15% of the requirements. By the beginning of the 3rd By the beginning of the 4th year, a student must have completed and passed 60% of the requirements. By the beginning of the 5th year, a student must have completed and passed 85% of the requirements.

  1. Student is eligible to compete in 4 (Seasons) within 5 Consecutive years of participation (10 semester s or 15 quarters) at a 4 year College or University or 2 seasons within 3 consecutive Calendar years (5 semesters or 8 quarters) at a junior (2 year) college. These time limits are calculated from the student’s original date of matriculation.

A Student Shall not be Subject to transfer qualifications if:

a. Student changed institutions in order to continue to participate in judo because judo was dropped as a sport from the previous institution.

b. There was no organized judo at previous organization.

c. The transfer is a result of enhanced educational opportunities. Written verification from previous coach that the student left the first program in good standing must accompany the application.

 

Ineligibility

a. If the student does not meet the unit standards required, then he/she becomes ineligible for competition until the student meets the standards.

b. If it is determined that a student was ineligible prior to competition due to misrepresented or forged documents, then he/she will at a minimum, for forfeit any medal and ranking achieved by this championship and will lose one year of eligibility. The USA Judo Standards Subcommittee may pursue the matter for additional action according to the bylaws of USA Judo.

 

Restoration of Eligibility

a. Any student that has been declared ineligible due to grades or unit requirements must apply for reinstatement to the eligibility committee of the NCJA.

b. Military Service and/or Religious Service: Any student who returns from at least 18 months of active service in the armed forces of the United States, or from at least 18 month of active service on an official church mission will have the same eligibility as when they started the service.

c. Hardship Exceptions: A student may apply for a hardship exception to the eligibility requirements in the case of injuries, illness, family emergency or other extraordinary circumstances.

The Eligibility Committee will judge all exceptions on merit with no guarantee of participation.

Petitions for reinstatement of eligibility for any reason must be received in writing no less than 6 weeks prior to the scheduled start of the championships.  To apply for restoration of eligibility, military of church service exception, hardship waiver or other eligibility questions, send a letter clearly stating and documenting the request.
